Making plants to be used for cabbage, water lilies, jungle terrain or woods

Hi folks,

sometimes I don´t have the inspiration and motivation to paint figures and like to build some terrain.

I love to use natural material and also to try several things that could be used for our hobby.

Maybe I´m crazy and may have sniffed too many times on super glue (I´ll have to ask my doc if any consequential damages could appear) but I started to build my own plants that could be used as cabbage  on fields or as water lilies, jungle terrain or woods.

A few months ago I had closer look on some pinecones like the ones you can see on the following picture.
Our gaming group has the plan to start with OperationSquad and so we bougth several figures for some Pacific scenarios.
Therefore we will need a lot of jungle terrain and I thought of jungle plants as I had a closer look on the pinecones.

The pinecones in original.
So I started to strip of the smaller parts of the pinecone and their shape inspired me to try building jungle plants.

The stripped pinecone.

Different shapes of the stripped pinecone.

I just put some miliput and fixed it on small plastic strips.

Then I glued some of the pinecone leaves on the bases.

To give it a more realistic look I put two layers of leaves one above the other.

The twice layered plants.

As the leaves are very fragile I used "future".
My friend Franz brought some of this sealing lacquer from his trip to the United States and was fascinated about its quality.
He uses it for varnishing his figures before using matt varnish.
It makes the figures more resistible especially soft or hard plastic figures.
He gave me some of the lacquer and I decided to try it on the plants.

The plants sealed with "future".

The whole work showed in the pictures above took me about a quarter of an hour.
So it is not that time intensive and also helps to cool down from other things of real life.
Now the only thing is to wait for the lacquer to be dry.

The next step will be to paint the plants in different shapes of green.
Before that I fixed the "plants" on cork for a better painting.
Sorry for the bad quality of the picture.

Thereafter I just painted the plants in different shapes of green using the AndreaColors Green Set.
I also glued some flowers on the middle.
I chose to give the plants a look that could be used for woods.
But I´m sure that the plants could be used for other things, too.

The ready painted plants.

A complete flocked base.

And just another one.

Several finished bases placed next to each other.

This is how it could look like on a wargamer´s table.

Hope you like it - ;)

SYW - Russian Infantry - A bargain at CRISIS

Manufacturer:   Front Rank
Scale:   28mm

At CRISIS there also had been a bring and buy.
Again I was lucky to make some real bargains.

One of the private traders had a lot of figures for the SYW at real good prices.
I bought several unpainted WargamesFoundry figures including Kleist-Hussards and Russian GuardInfantry.
I was also able to get about 20 unpainted FrontRank Prussians including two officers on horses for a special price.

But the best deal of them all was the painted infantry unit shown on the pictures below.
Look at these 24 figures of SYW Russian Infantry consisting of 12 Musketeers and 12 Grenadiers.
They may not be too well painted but they are already ready for action.

Maybe the bases will need some more work to give them a better look but I won´t put some more work on the figures themselves.
Concerning the bases they already have the same size I use for fixing my own figures.

More models from 4Ground - WIP

Manufacturer:  4Ground
Scale:   28mm

Hello again,

this time I´m posting some more photographs from the fantastic lasercut buildings of the British company 4Ground.

This company really seems to be one of the shooting stars as there had been a lot of traders on CRISIS dealing with their products.
I can´t remember that the buildings of 4Ground had been so popular last year.
In my opinion the prices for the buildings are also human.

As I told in one of my last posts I didn´t only buy the timber block house but also two other buildings, being two settlers log cabins.

After glueing the parts you can just use them on your wargaming table.
But for sure I will work on the bases and also on the roofs.
One of my next posts will show the totally finished houses.

I like the structure of the wooden blocks.

Each house is constructed so every single floor could be used.

Ideal for skirmishes.
You could also place little cannons on the first floor.
I would have shown but I didn´t find the shipguns that I have in my stock. :(

Another view on the first floor.

You can also open the door on the floor ground.

A view on the ground floor.

There is a lot of detail as you can see on the door.

One of the settlers log cabins.

The back view.

Again a picture with the roof removed.

Here also the door shows a lot of detail.

The second log cabin.

The front side.

A view at the rear of the house.

Both roofs removed.

A look inside the cabin.

Another perspective.
The cabins placed on the battle field.

My compliments to 4Ground.
I surely will buy other buildings and also furniture to set the cabins.

FIW - A short Intermezzo

Manufacturers:  diverse
Scale:  28mm

On our trip to CRISIS we couldn´t resist to buy some lasercut models for FIW from 4Ground.
The models are really fantastic and can be fixed very easy.
Beside the tower I also bought two block houses you can´t see on the pictures.
But here´s a link to the homepage of 4Ground - it´s worth watching it.
They also have a very nice range of Western buildings which are also prepainted so you could use them quite after glueing.
You can also choose between 15mm and 28mm.
They also will release furniture and accessories which look very cool.

To give the building a better look (though it isn´t perfect as the base and also some weathering and greening isn´t done yet) I just built a small scenery with woods and some of my painted figures.
In the description of the pictures you´ll get some information about the different manufacturers.

British Infantry for SYW from Foundry.

Indians prepairing a raid on the blockhouse.

Indians from PerryMiniatures and also from Conquest.

The guy in the hunting shirt is a figure from the AWI-Range from FrontRank.
The Militia is from GaloppingMajor.
I bought the haystacks on CRISIS, but I don´t remember the name of the company. :(

ACW - Confederate Infantry

Manufacturer:  Perry Miniatures (Plastics)
Scale:  28mm

Here are some pictures of a unit of Confederate Infantry Krisztian painted for me.
Again he did a perfect job.
He also has a unit of Confederate Cavalry from me to be painted and I just can´t await to see the results on them.
I hope to get the figures soon for they need to be based for their call to arms on our wargaming tables.
They fit very good to the unit of Zouaves Krisztian also painted for me.

If you are interested in the work of Krisztian - here is a link to his blog:
